Professor Acquaviva is Associate Professor of Pharmaceutical Biology dealing with the recognition of medicinal and food plants and their therapeutic use (antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and anticancer). In particular, she deals with the preparation of extracts, their fractionation and isolation of bioactive compounds. She is also currently studying biological valutaizone (antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antitumor) and mechanisms of action of extracts and/or active principles in physiological and/or pathological conditions related to oxidative stress such as dysmetabolic, antitumor and ischemic diseases. She is a member of the Spin off NaCTUre s.r.l., Unict.it, (Subject: research and development, aimed at the production and commercialization of extracts of substances and natural with biological activity).

Her scientific research has principally been on: - Synthesis and characterization of polyamines (con IR, UV, NMR, HPLC); - Toxicity of ROS; - Natural antioxidant; - Oxidative stress; - Role of oxidative stress in cerebral post-ischemic reperfusion damage; - Role of oxidative stress in hepatic post-ischemic reperfusion damage; - Apoptosis and heat shock proteins (HSP 70, HO-1); - Markers of colon cancer; To date, she studies the markers of oxidative stress, mecchanism of action of natural/synthesis antioxidant s and the development of new therapeutic strategies.
