Expected Learning Outcomes

EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES

Knowledge and understanding: The student will acquire basic knowledge of veterinary drugs.

Ability to apply knowledge and understanding:

By the end of the course, the student will have acquired knowledge regarding the mechanism of action, pharmacokinetic profile, therapeutic indications, and side effects of the drugs listed in the syllabus.

Furthermore, the student will learn general concepts concerning the risk-benefit ratio of pharmacological treatments and the various routes of administration.

Making judgments: The student will be able to interpret and critically evaluate findings related to specific classes of veterinary drugs by consulting scientific literature.

Communication skills:

The student will be able to advise users on the use of specific classes of veterinary drugs, providing information on efficacy, side effects, contraindications, drug interactions, and toxicity.

Learning skills:

The student will develop the ability to independently locate bibliographic material and update their knowledge by consulting specialized databases.

Course Structure

COURSE DELIVERY METHOD

In accordance with Article 12 of the Teaching Regulations (RDA) regarding University Educational Credits (CFU), the standard student workload of 25 hours per credit may comprise: a) 7 hours of lectures or equivalent teaching activities, with the remainder dedicated to individual study; or b) between 12 and 15 hours of classroom exercises or equivalent supervised activities (e.g., laboratory sessions), with the remainder dedicated to study and personal review. The teaching method for the "Veterinary Drugs" course is based on lectures supported by projected slides.

Should the course be delivered in a blended or remote format, necessary adjustments to the above arrangements may be introduced to ensure the planned syllabus is covered.

Information for students with disabilities and/or specific learning disorders (SLD):

To ensure equal opportunities and compliance with current legislation, interested students may request a personal meeting to plan any compensatory and/or dispensatory measures tailored to educational objectives and specific needs. Students may contact Prof. Santina Chiechio (santina.chiechio@unict.it), who also serves as the CInAP representative (Center for Active and Participatory Inclusion – Services for Disabilities and SLD; https://www.cinap.unict.it/content/referenti) for the Department of Drug and Health Sciences. Students may also contact CInAP (Center for Active and Participatory Integration — Services for Disabilities and/or Specific Learning Disorders: https://www.cinap.unict.it/content/referenti) and the designated department contact person (Prof. Santina Chiechio; email: santina.chiechio@unict.it).

Required Prerequisites
