At the end of the course, the student will be able to:

Recognize and describe the main categories of pharmaceutical dosage forms used in veterinary medicines, both traditional and innovative;

Understand the pharmacotechnical specificities associated with different animal species (e.g., spot-on solutions, pour-on formulations, boluses, drenches, intubation formulations, dust bags, dips);

Be familiar with the technological and regulatory principles that guide the design, production, and quality control of veterinary medicinal products.

Definition of veterinary medicinal products
Routes of administration of veterinary drugs
Regulatory framework of veterinary medicinal products
The new EU Regulation on veterinary medicinal products: Sale of veterinary medicinal products;
Prescription and dispensing of veterinary medicinal products; Veterinary Electronic Prescription;
Pharmacovigilance; Labeling, packaging and advertising; Antimicrobials and antimicrobial resistance; Environmental risk assessment; One Health
Regulations on medicated feed: Definition of medicated feed; premix and intermediate product; regulatory framework; Manufacturing, composition, quality, and internal controls; Labeling, packaging, advertising, and trade; Authorization, operators’ obligations, official controls, and penalties; Veterinary prescription, disposal, and antimicrobial substances.

Pharmaceutical forms used in veterinary medicinal products
Dosage forms for oral use: Powders; palatable capsules; boluses; tablets; atypical oral forms (medicated gelatins, molded tablets); palatable pastes.
Liquid preparations for oral use (oral solutions, emulsions and suspensions; drenches; solutions for intubation);
Magistral and officinal galenic preparations for veterinary use.
Topical dosage forms:
Liquid preparations (solutions, suspensions, emulsions, spot-on, pour-on, dips);
Semisolid preparations for external use (creams, ointments, pastes);
Solid systems and controlled-release devices (dust bags, collars);
