Tenure-Track Assistant Professor (RTT) in the scientific disciplinary sector CHEM-08/A – Pharmaceutical Technology, Socioeconomics and Regulatory Affairs of Medicinal Products at the Department of Drug and Health Sciences (DSFS), University of Catania. She obtained her degree in Pharmacy, qualification as a Pharmacist, and PhD in Neuroscience from the same university. During her doctoral studies, she conducted research at the UCL School of Pharmacy, London, focusing on the design of chitosan-derivative-based nanocomplexes for the intranasal delivery of siRNA to the brain. She has obtained the Italian National Scientific Qualification (ASN) for the position of Associate Professor (Academic Recruitment Field 03/D2). Previously, she served as a fixed-term Assistant Professor (RTDa), working on the project “Innovative Therapeutic Approaches for Brain Targeting of Drugs and Genetic Material”, carried out in collaboration between the DSFS and Dompé S.p.A. (Naples). Her research activity focuses on the design, optimization, and physicochemical and technological characterization of nanotechnology-based delivery systems (polymeric nanoparticles, nanogels, nanocrystals, and nanomicelles) for the delivery of bioactive compounds of pharmaceutical and health interest, through the application of Design of Experiments (DoE) methodologies. Particular emphasis is placed on intranasal nose-to-brain drug delivery strategies aimed at overcoming the blood–brain barrier. She is involved in research projects in the field of nanomedicine, supported by collaborations with national and international research groups. She also carries out teaching activities in undergraduate and postgraduate academic programs, including master's courses and specialization schools. She is the author of 47 scientific publications in the field of controlled drug delivery systems and has presented her research findings at national and international conferences. As of 20 July 2026, her Scopus bibliometric indicators are: 1,778 citations and an H-index of 25.
