For the three-year period 2017-2020 he was the Coordinator of the Master's Degree in Chimica e Tecnologia Farmaceutiche.
GR's research activity has mainly been devoted to the design, synthesis and characterization of novel heterocyclic compounds with potential biological activity. His main lines of research are: (i) design and synthesis of ligands for the serotoninergic receptors 5-HT7 and 5-HT1A; (ii) design and synthesis of ligands for the alpha1-AR receptor subtypes and of novel PET ligands for in vivo imaging of alpha1-ARs; (iii) development of ligands for the sigma 1 receptor; (iv) development of inhibitors of heme oxygenase 1. GR is author of numerous scientific papers in national and international journals. In 1996 he worked at the Division of Medicinal Chemistry, Vrije Universitat, Amsterdam, The Netherlands. In the summer of 2000 he was a visiting professor at the Dept. of Pharmacology, Emory University, Atlanta, USA. GR has taken part in several scientific projects funded by the University of Catania, MIUR and other institutions and maintains collaborations with Italian and international research groups.
