Vincenzo Patamia

Tell us about yourself: what is your educational and academic background?
I received my bachelor's degree in Environmental and Food Toxicology in 2015 and then my master's degree in Materials Chemistry in 2018, both from the University of Catania. In March 2022, I received my PhD in Chemical Sciences. I was selected as a finalist for the best doctoral thesis in Organic Chemistry by the Italian Chemical Society. I have currently won an RtdA position at the Department of Pharmaceutical and Health Sciences, at the University of Catania.

Can you briefly introduce your research?
My research focuses on the application of Organic Chemistry in the field of supramolecular chemistry, in the synthesis of new smart materials, and in the area of molecular modelling. Lately I have been looking into the synthesis of radiopharmaceuticals.

What are the most challenging aspects of your work?
In general, the ability to harness Organic Chemistry to develop ad hoc methodologies to serve the industrial, environmental, and pharmaceutical fields is very challenging.

What are the most "intriguing" and fulfilling aspects of your research?
It is fulfilling and intriguing to find application to the synthetic aspect of organic chemistry, to find new solutions for radiochemistry, materials chemistry, and supramolecular chemistry.

THAT'S ME in few words! What are your outside hobbies?
Football, travel and be in good company!
